Judo (meaning “gentle way”) is a martial art, combat style and Olympic sport created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. It’s most prominent feature is it’s competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or take an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue them with a pin, or force them to submit with a joint lock or a choke. A judo practitioner is called a judoka.

Instructor: Akbar Moghtader

Akbar started his Judo, Jiu-jitsu and wrestling training in 1980 in Tehran, Iran with the Iranian Air Force. In Iran, Akbar earned his 1st and 2nd degree black belts in Judo and trained under many noted instructors. He was successful in winning regional and state tournaments culminating in his competition at the Iran open.

In 2000 he continued his training in Holland winning several provincial tournaments. In 2001 Akbar moved to Texas where he continued his training and began coaching. He competed at the Texas and Missouri State tournaments and the US Open.

Akbar is currently a 3rd degree black belt and a USA Judo certified coach. He lives in Utah with his wife and their two children. He has a deep love for the sport of Judo and loves sharing that joy with his students.
